Understanding Fine Motor delay

Difficulty with fine motor skills can occur due to a variety of reasons including but not limited to underdeveloped muscles, orthopedic issues, sensory processing differences, and intellectual delays.
Children with fine motor delays may experience messy and inefficient eating experiences due to difficulties in grasping utensils or manipulating food effectively.
They might also struggle with handwriting, coloring, and drawing, impacting their performance in school activities and their overall confidence.
Additionally, difficulties with basic self-care tasks can lead to continued dependence on caregivers and increased stress and frustration during daily routines for everyone.

How I support fine motor skills development

I love using fun and engaging exercises, activities, and games tailored to your child’s interests to improve fine motor dexterity and strength.
In addition, I may also address other underlying issues such as visual motor skills (hand-eye coordination), sensory processing or the way the body processes sensations, handwriting skills, as well as environmental modifications to create supportive environments that promote motor development for your child.
I also value the importance of collaboration and consultation, so I work closely with families to develop adaptive strategies that ease the transition into independence, making the therapy experience smoother and less frustrating for everyone.
